Stephen Harper and Rob Ford shake hands on funding for Scarborough subway

The liberals and glenn murray beat then to the punch

“Great news,” Toronto Mayor Rob Ford reacted to the confirmation that Prime Minister Stephen Harper will help to see through his ambition to build a new subway extension in the east Toronto region of Scarborough.

“The federal government has delivered.”

Further details will reportedly not be made available until Monday at 10 a.m. — by Finance Minister Jim Flaherty — at the Don Montgomery Community Centre in Scarborough.

But the subway is expected to cost hundreds of millions more than the previous plan that focused on a light rail line.

Toronto Transit Commission chair Karen Stintz shared a map of what long-suffering Scarborough transit riders can expect: A 6.4 km line that connects the existing Kennedy subway station with the Sheppard East LRT that is expected to be complete in 2021.
