Toronto city councillor Doug Ford has always been known as a pugnacious, say-anything loudmouth — even more so than his brother Rob, Mayor of the city. On Sunday, though, amidst drugs-related allegations — Rob’s alleged recent use of crack cocaine; Doug’s alleged dealing of hashish in the 1980s — the Brothers Ford cranked it up a notch on their regularly scheduled Sunday radio revue.
Sunday’s show will probably be best remembered for Rob calling the media “maggots.” (He issued a rare public apology on Monday.) But my favourite moment, and a beautiful illustration of the Fords’ pure essence, came after a caller, “Pam,” asked the Mayor whether it was actually him in a photograph allegedly depicting him with reputed drug-dealer Anthony Smith, since deceased.
By his standards, the Mayor answered politely and coherently: What can I tell you, he basically said. I take pictures with lots of folks.
